[Burning Man Header]

Monday, August 28, the first day of BM, found us driving west across the Great Salt Lake with NPR on the radio when an interesting bit of synchronicity occurred. All Things Considered was running one of their Top 100 songs of all time, which just happened that day to be the Doors' Light My Fire. Coincidence? You tell me.

Tuesday we did our final provisioning and then drove into the Black Rock Desert, picked up our tickets, and entered BM. It was obvious we weren't in Kansas any more, and I did my best not to stare. I'd like to think that we set up a respectable camp for first-timers. We even picked a fun address. Our home for a week included a shower with Scooby Doo shower curtain, a parachute for shade, inflatable leopard print sofa, yard spinners, and neon light poles out front.

We had several cool neighbors from SF. On the right, Max was Las Vegas, and Kari was from Austin, TX. This was their second date!
